Franchisees promote this program from their home-based office to schools and daycares in their exclusive territory. Parents typically pay around $20 for this service. The cost of owning a Guard-A-Kid™ franchise is $19,900 and this includes all the hardware, software and other equipment you need to start your home-based business. Who is Guard-A-Kid
Guard-A-Kid™ was formed in 2003 in Miami, Florida. After months of research and development, Guard-A-Kid™ unveiled its state-of-the-art Digital Child ID System in 2004. This new system provides a complete identification and safety package for children. According to law enforcement throughout the United States, a parent’s best assurance for the quick and safe recovery of a missing child is to have a complete profile of the child on hand. Guard-A-Kid™ has developed a simple yet comprehensive system that provides a complete identification for a child within minutes.

Why is child ID and child safety so important?
The FBI receives over 2000 missing children reports every day. A child in the United States becomes missing every 40 seconds. Statistics from the US justice department and the world Almanac puts the chance of any child becoming missing at 1 in 42.

According to law enforcement throughout the United States, a parent’s best assurance for the quick and safe recovery of a missing child is to have a complete profile of the child on hand. The first hours after a child becomes missing is the most critical time for recovery. However it is also the time when the parents are in a panic mode and cannot remember a detailed description of their child.

Why Guard-A-Kid?
Guard-A-Kid™ provides a total and complete child ID and child safety package to each participating parent. Guard-A-Kid uses a state-of-the-art FBI quality digital fingerprint scanner to capture the child’s fingerprint images. A single ID card is not enough in finding a missing child. In many cases, missing children end up in other states. While others offer a single printed ID card, Guard-A-Kid™ provides the parents with two wallet-size printed IDs, a large file-size ID, and most importantly a CDROM that contains all of the child’s information in a digital format. The CDROM is extremely essential in transmitting the child’s information to other law enforcement agencies within the same city and also to agencies out of state. In fact, with Guard-A-Kid™, the full set of information from a missing child can be emailed to other agencies within seconds. The first hour after the child is reported missing is the most important time in recovering the child. The CDROM includes a file that contains all of the child’s information in the format that the police and the FBI prefer to see. Once the parent provides the CDROM to law enforcement and the law enforcement inserts it into their computer system, the child’s information is quickly formatted into their database and ready to be sent to other agencies worldwide.

According to law enforcement, it is essential to have full 10 fingerprints for accurate identification. While others offer a single card with only a thumb fingerprint, Guard-A-Kid’s digital fingerprint scanner captures the prints from all 10 fingers.

What does the Guard-A-Kid™ child ID package include?

Each child ID kit includes the following items:

1. Two laminated wallet-sized (driver’s license size) identification cards – each card includes a color photograph, right thumb fingerprint, critical and emergency data as well as parent awareness information (back of card). These cards are intended to be carried by each parent (or a caregiver) and present the police with information about the missing child immediately.

2. One large file-size identification sheet – The sheet contains images of all10 fingerprints, large color photo, and full demographic, critical and emergency data along with parent awareness information on the back. This sheet is stored in a safe place that is easily and quickly recoverable in the case of a missing child.

3. CDROM containing a digital image (.bmp files) of all 10 fingerprints, a digital image (.jpg file) of the color photo, a text file containing full demographic information and an FBI preferred (.EFT file) file that is specifically used by the law enforcement agencies. The CDROM data provides critical information to the police that are easily and quickly transmittable to other agencies.

4. A set of safety pamphlets that provide useful information about child safety and what parents should know to fight back.

5. The kit is delivered to parents in a professional customized envelope.

Who pays for this service?
The parents who are interested in receiving a complete identification and safety kit for their child sign up and pay for this service. The money, usually in the form of cash or check is sent back to school with their child in the enclosed envelopes.

How much do the parents pay for this service?
The parents pay $20 per child for each Guard-A-Kid™ child ID package. This is a very reasonable price considering the value of this package and the fact that it also provides them with information about their child in a digital format (CDROM) as well as the printed Ids.

Can I find a sponsor to pay for the service?
Yes. Our software is designed such that it allows any third party sponsors logo to be printed on the Child ID cards. Therefore, if you would like to signup a sponsor to pay for all of or a portion of the Child ID Kits in exchange for name recognition, then you can do so and provide the kits to the parents for less cost or even free. Many sponsors would love to participate in such events, since they are doing something admirable for the community. School logos can also be printed on the ID cards, if the school chooses to do so.

Is the information captured from each child kept on file?
NO. Guard-A-Kid™ child safety specialists (franchisees) do not keep any of the captured information including the fingerprints and the photo on file. The parents are solely responsible to keep their child’s information handy in the case of an emergency.

How much does it cost to purchase a franchise?
The franchise fee includes all of the hardware, software, marketing materials, display items, tech support, training and everything else that you need to start your home-based business. Guard-A-Kid™ Hardware System

Is the system easy to learn?
The system is extremely easy to learn. No prior computer knowledge or special skills are required. The software is developed so that the entire process takes place on one single screen. The software walks you through the procedure. Just follow the procedure that takes approximately a couple of minutes per child and you are done. The system is designed so that you cannot make mistakes. It’s extremely easy, fun and rewarding.

How do I start selling?
Selling the service is easy. All you have to do is to approach a school and talk with the principle or the PTA president. Guard-A-Kid™ has done most the work for you already. Our marketing material is very clear and professional. All you have to do is to present the school official with the marketing material and pick a date to perform this service at their school. Please remember, this is a service tailored for the parents and the school is not the one buying it. Essentially you are not acting as a sales person trying to sell the school something they don’t need. You are asking for a permission to offer this service at their school to the parents of their students. The choice to pay for this service or not belongs to each parent and not the school. This is a much-needed service and schools see this as a must have service.

In most occasions, you would approach a school and walk away minutes later with a date for this service. You can visit many schools within a couple of hours and book your calendar for the following week. Guard-A-Kid™ provides you with the appropriate take-home flyers for each child. The take-home flyers are your silent salesperson and introduce this service to parents. The parents that are interested in the service, fill out the information on the forms and send it back to school with their child.

How do I make money?
Please be aware that the law enforcement agencies recommend the parents to have a child ID for their children and to have it updated annually. This means that once you sign up a school with this service, you can most likely count on that school every year. Please call us at (800) 679-4256 for details.

How much work do I have to do?
This is your business and remember YOU DON’T HAVE A BOSS! You work out of your house and you work as much as you like. Obviously the more schools you visit, the more money you would make. Most people spend two days of the week approaching schools and setting appointments and three days of the week capturing and issuing child ID kits. On the days you would visit schools, you can visit many schools within the same area in a single hour. At the day of the event, you would show up to school at your convenience and start processing the children who have signed up. It is that simple! The children are brought out of the classroom, with the help of a school staff or a helper. You can typically process a child in a couple of minutes. You would then print and laminate each kit at the comfort of your home and turn in the package back to the school two to three weeks later at your convenience.

Therefore, you can work any day of the week that is convenient to you and you would start when you want and stop when you want. The hours depend on you.

You can choose to continue doing this service at summer camps or decide to take the summer off. You are your own boss. You decide how much you would like to work. Most of our existing Guard-A-Kid™ child safety specialists work a few hours a day while their own kids are at school.

Do I need to lease a location for this business?
No. This is a home-based business and you do not need to lease a location. You would run this from a small room in your house. All you equipment fits in carrying cases that are included with your franchise package.

Do I compete against other Guard-A-Kid™ child safety specialists (franchisees) in my territory?
No. Your territory is exclusive to you and Guard-A-Kid™ will not assign that area to anyone else.

How big is my territory and how many people live in each territory?
Each territory is assigned such that your potential market is about 100,000 kids. The territories are divided based on zip codes. Multiple adjacent zip codes make up a single territory with a total population of approximately 400,000 people, such that the total school kid population in that area is around 100,000.

What about the children who are absent from school on the Guard-A-Kid™ day?
At the end of the Guard-A-Kid™ program day in any school, you would approach the principle and set up a make-up day for a week or two later. You would process the kids that were absent on the make-up day.
