Toothprints™
Developed by Dr. Dave Tesini, a pediatric dentist from Massachusetts, Toothprints is a simple, cost-effective way of documenting your child’s unique tooth characteristics, tooth position within the arch and maxillomandibular jaw relationship – all important identifiers. It is recommended that Toothprints ® bite impressions be taken as early as age 2-3 to record the baby teeth, and then again as the permanent teeth erupt at periodic intervals. Yearly updates of Toothprints™ bite impressions are recommended.
How it works – Placing the product in hot water softens the thermoplastic Toothprints™ wafer, the child bites into the wafer to record the size and shape of the teeth, positioned within the arch and in relationship of the upper and lower jaw. This provides a reliable record of unique dental characteristics and captures saliva for DNA analysis and scent dog tracking.
Three essential benefits of Toothprints™:
a) It records individual tooth characteristics, tooth position within the arch and the upper and the lower jaw relationship.
b) Collects DNA in saliva, which is a very important information for identification.
c) Since the toothprints wafer is sealed in a “zipper-type”plastic bag, enough scent remains for a trained dog to identify and track with it.
